Isle of Wight plant nursery growing and sourcing hardy perennials for thriving Island gardens

A quick note as we reopen for the season

Many of our plants are still growing and establishing as it’s early in the season. Some varieties on the website are marked “propagating”, meaning they’re currently being grown on and will become available very soon.

Unlike many large garden centres, our plants aren’t pushed along under artificial lighting to make them look perfect early in the year. Most of our plants are propagated and grown naturally here on the Isle of Wight, so they develop at the pace of the season, resulting in stronger, more garden-ready plants.

Thank you for supporting a small, island-grown nursery.

About us

We’re Jenni & Alan

Jenni holds a Level 3 qualification in Horticulture and has over a decade of gardening experience on the Island, with a passion for plants and propagation. Alan, a former Royal Marine, holds a City & Guilds qualification in Horticulture and discovered a new calling in horticulture and hasn't looked back since.

Together, we work in gardens across the Isle of Wight, so we know what truly thrives here - from wind-whipped coastal beds to shady woodland corners. Plants by the Green Standard grew from our desire to offer hardy, beautiful, and useful plants that genuinely perform in real-world gardens.

Much of our stock has been propagated by us, right here on site - from seed, cuttings or careful division. This hands on approach means we know every plant from its earliest stages, ensuring strong healthy stock that's well adapted to our conditions.

To offer a wider range through the season, we also carefully source some plants from trusted UK growers who share our focus on quality and sustainability.

When you buy from us, you're getting plants grown and selected with care for thriving Isle of Wight gardens.

Our Plants in Real Gardens

There’s no better proof of a plant’s resilience and beauty than seeing it thrive where it’s meant to grow. In our gallery, you’ll find photos of the hardy perennials we grow — not in studios, but in the gardens we live and work in across the Isle of Wight. Every image shows our plants in real conditions, cared for with the same passion and attention we offer to every gardener we serve.

Strulch Organic Straw Mulch is a natural garden mulch made from mineralised wheat straw. It helps suppress weeds, retain soil moisture, and creates a surface that slugs and snails dislike crossing. We use it ourselves around the nursery, and Alan supplies it locally here on the Isle of Wight. Use the link below to order.
