Astilbe 'Dunes Revolution'

A striking astilbe with elegant plumes of soft pink flowers that bring colour and texture to shaded borders.

Astilbe 'Dunes Revolution' produces upright, feathery flower plumes in warm pink shades during summer, rising above attractive, deeply divided foliage. The fluffy blooms create a light, airy effect and provide welcome colour in areas of the garden where many flowering perennials struggle. Bees and other pollinators are frequent visitors to the flowers, adding further interest to the display.

Thriving in moisture-retentive soil, this hardy perennial forms neat clumps that gradually increase in size each year. It performs best in partial shade but will also tolerate more sun if the soil remains consistently moist. Its elegant habit makes it ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders and alongside ponds or streams.

Note for Isle of Wight Planting

Astilbe 'Dunes Revolution' is an excellent choice for sheltered Isle of Wight gardens where moisture levels remain reasonably consistent through summer. A yearly mulch of compost or leaf mould will help keep roots cool and encourage vigorous growth.

Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range

  • Hosta 'Sum and Substance' – large architectural foliage contrasts beautifully with the fine flower plumes

  • Brunnera – attractive heart-shaped leaves and spring flowers provide season-long interest

  • Pulmonaria – early flowers and patterned foliage complement the astilbe's texture

  • Dicentra alba – graceful white flowers create a soft woodland-style combination

  • Geranium 'Rozanne' – provides a long season of colour around the base of the planting

  • Anemone 'Honorine Jobert' – follows on with elegant late-season blooms

🌟 The Green Standard Tip

Astilbes are at their best when planted in groups rather than individually. Repeating three or five plants through a border creates a much stronger display and enhances their soft, cloud-like effect.
