Carex oshimensis ‘Evergold’
A striking ornamental sedge with a soft, arching habit and bold variegation.
This much-loved evergreen grass forms neat clumps of narrow leaves, each striped creamy yellow down the centre with deep green edges. Its elegant tufts add movement, texture and colour contrast to borders, pots and shady spots, while also offering year-round interest. Even in the depths of winter, ‘Evergold’ remains a cheerful highlight when other plants have died back.
Thriving in both sun and partial shade, Carex ‘Evergold’ is low-maintenance, drought-tolerant once established, and equally happy in the ground or in containers. Its mounding habit makes it excellent for edging paths, softening hard landscaping, or underplanting shrubs where colour and structure are needed.

🌿 Note for Isle of Wight planting
‘Evergold’ thrives in coastal gardens, tolerating salty breezes and poorer soils. On the Island it makes a great choice for year-round structure in mixed beds, and its resilience means it will cope well with our often dry summers.
🌿 Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range
Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’ – rich bronze foliage for striking contrast
Pulmonaria ‘Opal’ – silvery leaves and spring flowers for pollinators
Ajuga ‘Burgundy Glow’ – groundcover with colourful foliage and blue flowers
Epimedium x warleyense ‘Orangekönigin’ – delicate spring flowers and shade tolerance
🌟 The Green Standard Tip
Plant Carex ‘Evergold’ in groups of three or more to create natural drifts of colour and texture. In early spring, simply comb through the foliage with your fingers or shears to remove any tired leaves and keep clumps looking fresh.
