🌿 Crocosmia ‘Fire King’

Crocosmia ‘Fire King’ lives up to its name with vivid flame-red flowers that blaze through the height of summer. Held on gently arching stems above narrow, upright foliage, the blooms bring heat and movement to borders, gravel gardens, or coastal plantings. Its long flowering season and ease of care make it a garden classic.

This cultivar is especially valued for its compact growth and ability to thrive in well-drained soils, even during dry spells. It's a reliable performer for Isle of Wight gardens and beyond.

Specifications:
Height: 60–80cm
Spread: 45–60cm
Flowering: July to August
Position: Full sun or light shade
Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile
Maintenance: Cut back spent flower stems and yellowing leaves in autumn; divide clumps every 3–4 years in spring

🌿 Note for Isle of Wight planting:
Perfectly suited to the island’s coastal climate. ‘Fire King’ copes well with dry, exposed sites and benefits from the mild winters, returning reliably each year with even more firepower.

🌿 Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:
Stipa tenuissima ‘Ponytails’ – Provides soft texture to balance Crocosmia’s upright form
Verbena bonariensis – Tall and airy, adds vertical contrast and attracts pollinators
Salvia greggii ‘Blue Note’ – Deep blue flowers contrast beautifully with Crocosmia’s red
Geranium ‘Rozanne’ – Long-flowering, ground-covering, and cool in tone
Achillea millefolium ‘Paprika’ – Harmonises with warm reds and oranges

🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
For best flowering, plant in a sunny position with good drainage and avoid overfeeding. Combine in swathes for a striking late summer display that’s both fiery and wildlife-friendly.
