Festuca glauca ‘Elijah Blue’

A compact ornamental grass prized for its striking silvery-blue foliage.

This well-loved grass forms neat, spiky mounds of icy blue leaves that keep their colour year-round, adding cool contrast to borders, gravel gardens and pots. In summer, it produces slender flowering stems topped with soft, straw-coloured seedheads that sway gently in the breeze, giving movement and texture.

‘Elijah Blue’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it ideal for coastal and drought-tolerant planting schemes. Its clump-forming habit stays neat and tidy without becoming invasive, and it looks especially effective planted en masse or as edging. Perfect for low-maintenance gardeners, it needs very little attention beyond an occasional tidy-up.

🌟 The Green Standard Tip

Plant Festuca ‘Elijah Blue’ in groups of three or more for maximum impact, and resist the urge to cut it back hard – just comb through old leaves in spring to keep the clumps fresh.
