Fuchsia microphylla
A delicate and unusual fuchsia with tiny leaves and dainty flowers that bring a light, natural feel to the garden.
Fuchsia microphylla produces small pinkish-red tubular flowers followed by attractive dark berries. The flowers are more understated than those of many hybrid fuchsias, giving the plant a graceful, natural look that works beautifully in relaxed borders. Its tiny leaves create a fine texture, and in mild conditions plants can flower for an exceptionally long period, ours has even been flowering right through the winter.
This elegant shrub prefers a sunny or lightly shaded position in well-drained soil. It forms a light, airy plant over time and works well in sheltered borders, cottage gardens, or containers where its delicate character can be appreciated. In mild areas it can prove surprisingly resilient when given a protected position.

In sheltered Isle of Wight gardens this fuchsia can perform particularly well. Our plant has continued flowering right through the winter in a protected spot, showing how well it can cope in the island’s mild climate.
Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:
Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’, soft lavender-blue flowers that spill around the base of borders
Erigeron karvinskianus, airy daisies that soften the planting
Salvia ‘Chalk White’, elegant white flower spikes that brighten the border
Salvia hians, bold violet-blue flowers that add height and contrast
🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
Give plants a sheltered spot and lightly prune in spring once new growth appears to keep them compact and encourage fresh flowering shoots.
