Geum ‘Blazing Sunset’
A rich, fiery cottage-garden perennial with bold scarlet-red blooms.
Geum ‘Blazing Sunset’ produces masses of fully double, vivid red flowers from late spring into summer, held above fresh green, slightly hairy foliage. The colour is warm, bright and eye-catching, bringing a lovely burst of energy to borders, cottage-style planting and wildlife-friendly gardens. Bees and other pollinators may visit the open centres as flowers mature, though the double blooms are mainly grown for their dramatic colour and long-lasting display.
It thrives best in sun or light part shade, in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Geums dislike sitting bone dry for long periods, so this is a good choice for borders that hold a little more moisture than very dry gravel planting. It forms a neat clump and works beautifully through the front or middle of a border, especially among softer blues, purples and airy grasses.

🌿 Note for Isle of Wight planting:
A lovely choice for island cottage gardens and mixed perennial borders, especially where the soil does not dry out completely in summer. In hotter, exposed coastal spots, give it a little afternoon shade or plant among companions that help keep the root area cooler.
🌿 Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:
Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’, soft blue flowers to cool the hot red blooms
Salvia ‘Schwellenburg’, rich purple tones for a bold, bee-friendly contrast
Alchemilla mollis, lime-green froth to soften the planting
Catananche caerulea, airy blue flowers for a light cottage-garden feel
Stipa tenuissima, soft movement without overwhelming the Geum
🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
Deadhead regularly and give it a mulch in spring to keep the soil cool and moisture-retentive, it will reward you with a much longer flowering season.
