Helenium ‘Helena Mix’

A joyful burst of late-summer colour, Helenium ‘Helena Mix’ offers a vibrant blend of daisy-like blooms in warm amber, copper, gold, and deep red tones — each one a beacon for bees and butterflies. With its upright habit and richly toned flowers, it creates rhythm and energy in mixed borders, prairie-style plantings, or sunny pollinator patches.

Tough, floriferous, and reliably perennial, ‘Helena Mix’ thrives in most soils and rewards with an extended flowering season from mid-summer well into autumn. Its sturdy stems rarely flop, even in exposed spots, and the plants are generous enough to divide every couple of years.

Specifications:

• Height: 90–120 cm

• Spread: 40–60 cm

• Flowering: July to October

• Position: Full sun

• Soil: Moist but well-drained; thrives in clay, loam, or improved sandy soil

• Maintenance: Deadhead for extended flowering; divide every 2–3 years to refresh vigour

🌿 Note for Isle of Wight planting:

Ideal for sunny Island gardens where vibrant, late-season colour can feel rare. ‘Helena Mix’ thrives in open, exposed spots — including south-facing borders or prairie-style island beds where moisture holds — and attracts clouds of pollinators long after other flowers fade.

🌿 Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:

• Achillea millefolium ‘Terracotta’ – echoing sunset tones with flat flowerheads

• Verbena bonariensis – airy height and contrast to solid Helenium shapes

• Pennisetum ‘Karley Rose’ – soft grasses to sway between bursts of colour

• Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’ – golden spikes for a pollinator-rich finale

• Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm’ – classic black-eyed daisy partner

🌟 The Green Standard Tip:

Plant in generous groups for maximum impact and bee appeal. Cut back spent flowers to encourage a second flush — or leave seedheads standing for autumn texture and wildlife value. For lush growth, mulch annually in early spring.
