Helenium ‘Moerheim Beauty’

A rich, fiery perennial with deep red and burnt orange daisy flowers that bring bold late summer colour.

‘Moerheim Beauty’ is one of the best heleniums, producing masses of warm-toned flowers in shades of copper, red and orange, often with a darker centre. It’s a real standout in the border, especially in late summer when it adds depth and warmth just as other plants are starting to fade. Loved by bees, it’s a fantastic pollinator plant and great for creating that natural, meadow-style feel.

It forms a strong, upright clump, typically reaching around 90 to 120cm tall with a good spread. Best in full sun, it prefers fertile, moisture-retentive soil and won’t enjoy drying out too much in peak summer. A Chelsea chop in late May can help keep plants a bit shorter and bushier, and reduce the need for staking.

Note for Isle of Wight planting
Heleniums do well on the Isle of Wight but prefer a spot that doesn’t dry out too much, especially in sandy or free-draining soils. In more coastal or exposed gardens, planting with a bit of shelter and improving the soil with organic matter will help it perform at its best.

Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range

  • Calamagrostis ‘Karl Foerster’, adds height and movement behind the warm-toned flowers

  • Salvia ‘Caradonna’, deep purple spikes that contrast beautifully with the fiery colours

  • Rudbeckia ‘Juligold’, extends the late summer display with brighter yellow tones

  • Achillea ‘Terracotta’, blends seamlessly with the warm colour palette

  • Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’, soft blue flowers to cool and balance the planting

🌟 The Green Standard Tip
If your soil is on the dry side, mulch well in spring, heleniums are much happier with a bit of moisture and will reward you with a longer, stronger display.
