Iris albicans
A graceful white bearded iris that brings elegance and brightness to late spring borders.
Iris albicans produces large, softly fragrant blooms in pure white, sometimes with the faintest creamy tone at the centre. The flowers rise above neat fans of grey-green sword-like foliage, creating a fresh and timeless display in the garden. Its simple colouring makes it easy to combine with many other plants while still standing out beautifully in bloom.
This hardy perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained soil where the rhizomes can enjoy warmth. Tough and reliable, it gradually forms generous clumps and returns each year with impressive displays. It is particularly well suited to sunny borders, cottage gardens, and dry banks where drainage is good.

Note for Isle of Wight planting:
Iris albicans performs beautifully in Isle of Wight gardens where sunny, free-draining conditions suit it well. It’s an excellent choice for warm borders or coastal gardens where many plants struggle with drier soils.
Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:
Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’, soft lavender-blue flowers loved by pollinators
Stachys byzantina, silvery foliage that highlights the white blooms
Erigeron karvinskianus, delicate daisies for the front of borders
Salvia sclarea ‘Alba’, tall airy white flowers that add height and movement
🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
Plant iris rhizomes so the top sits just above the soil surface in a sunny spot. Good drainage and plenty of warmth will encourage strong flowering year after year.
