Jasione laevis ‘Blue Light’
A charming alpine with glowing blue pincushion flowers that pollinators adore.
Delicate yet eye-catching, Jasione laevis ‘Blue Light’ produces clusters of luminous sky-blue, pincushion-style flowers held above neat cushions of narrow green foliage. Blooming through summer, the flowers are rich in nectar and quickly attract bees and other beneficial pollinators. Its soft blue colouring blends beautifully with naturalistic planting and works especially well alongside silvers, soft purples, and airy grasses.
This compact perennial thrives in free-draining soil and sunny conditions, making it perfect for rock gardens, gravel planting, and the front of dry borders. It forms tidy, low clumps rather than spreading aggressively, and once established it copes well with poorer soils and dry spells, reflecting its alpine heritage.

Note for Isle of Wight planting
‘Blue Light’ is well suited to the Isle of Wight’s free-draining soils and sunny coastal gardens. It performs particularly well in gravel beds or raised borders where winter wet is avoided, and its nectar-rich flowers are valuable for island pollinators through summer.
Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range
• Stipa tenuissima , soft flowing grass that adds movement and contrast to the blue flowers
• Nepeta ‘Blue Wonder’ , longer flowering haze of lavender-blue that blends beautifully with the pincushion blooms
• Origanum ‘Bristol Cross’ , edible oregano with pinkish bracts that thrives in the same dry, sunny conditions
• Salvia sclarea ‘Alba’ , airy white flower spires that rise above the planting and attract bees
🌟 The Green Standard Tip
Plant in sharply drained soil or add grit when planting. Jasione dislikes winter wet more than cold, so raised beds, gravel gardens, or the front of sunny borders are ideal.
