Japanese Parsley (Cryptotaenia japonica)

A useful and attractive edible herb with delicate foliage and a fresh parsley-like flavour.

Japanese parsley produces soft green, finely divided leaves that resemble flat-leaf parsley but with a slightly more delicate appearance. The leaves have a fresh, mild flavour that works well in salads, soups, stir-fries, and garnishes. Small white flower umbels appear in summer, attracting bees and other beneficial insects to the garden.

This hardy perennial prefers moist, well-drained soil and grows well in sun or partial shade. It forms tidy clumps and can be harvested regularly through the growing season. Japanese parsley works beautifully in kitchen gardens, herb beds, or mixed borders where edible plants are combined with ornamentals.

Note for Isle of Wight planting:
Japanese parsley grows particularly well in Isle of Wight gardens where mild conditions allow plants to crop for a long season. A slightly sheltered spot with moisture-retentive soil will keep plants productive.

🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
Harvest young leaves regularly to keep plants producing fresh growth. Removing flower stems will also help extend the leaf harvest.
