Pulmonaria ‘Opal’
A soft and subtle spring beauty with silvery leaves and pale, glowing flowers.
Pulmonaria ‘Opal’ brings a gentle brightness to the shady border, its clusters of pale sky-blue to pearly lilac flowers opening in early spring, often with a misty two-toned effect as buds deepen before fading. Bees adore it as one of the first nectar sources of the year, and its silver-flecked foliage continues to offer interest long after flowering.
This low-growing perennial thrives in partial to full shade, especially beneath deciduous trees where it enjoys moist but well-drained soil. Once settled, it forms a spreading clump that knits together beautifully as groundcover, suppressing weeds and brightening darker corners of the garden.

🌿 Note for Isle of Wight planting

🌿 Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range
Epimedium x warleyense ‘Orangekönigin’ – delicate orange spring flowers with fine foliage
Lamium ‘White Nancy’ – a carpet of silver-white leaves and late spring blooms
Ajuga ‘Burgundy Glow’ – richly variegated groundcover with purple flower spikes
Hosta varieties – bold leaves contrasting beautifully with Pulmonaria’s speckled foliage
🌟 The Green Standard Tip
For the healthiest clumps, divide Pulmonaria every three to four years in early autumn, replanting the vigorous outer growths. This keeps them flowering strongly
