🌿 Salvia 'Cerro Potosí'

Salvia 'Cerro Potosí' delivers a bold burst of colour with vivid magenta-pink flowers held on dark stems above aromatic foliage. This compact, long-flowering salvia adds structure and vibrancy to sunny borders from early summer through to the first frosts. It’s highly attractive to bees and butterflies and thrives in dry, exposed, and coastal gardens — making it a standout performer in tough conditions.

Specifications:

  • Height: 45–60cm

  • Spread: 40–50cm

  • Flowering: June to October ☀️🍂

  • Position: Full sun

  • Soil: Well-drained; prefers sandy, gravelly, or chalky soils

🌿 Note for Isle of Wight planting:
Salvia 'Cerro Potosí' is ideal for island gardens — especially those exposed to wind and sun. It flourishes in free-draining soil and can handle the dry, salty conditions near the coast. Deadhead regularly for continuous blooms, and cut back in spring once new growth appears.

🌿 Ideal Companion Plants for Salvia 'Cerro Potosí'

1. Achillea millefolium 'Paprika'
The warm red tones of Achillea complement Salvia’s magenta flowers, creating a rich, fiery summer display.

2. Pennisetum orientale 'Flamingo'
Soft, pink-tinged plumes echo the bold colour while adding movement and contrast in texture.

3. Erigeron speciosus 'Pink Jewel'
Daisy-like blooms in matching tones weave through the upright stems of Salvia for a long, blended flowering period.

4. Gaura lindheimeri 'The Bride'
Airy white blooms from Gaura bring contrast and lightness, helping balance the intensity of Salvia's bold flowers.

5. Geranium 'Rozanne'
Cool violet tones beneath Salvia provide colour contrast while offering reliable groundcover from summer into autumn.

🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
This Salvia is perfect for pollinator borders, Mediterranean-style planting, and drought-tolerant schemes. Combine with ornamental grasses and long-flowering perennials to create vibrant, low-maintenance borders that sing from midsummer onwards.
