Salvia ‘Christine Yeo’
A classic cottage garden favourite, Salvia ‘Christine Yeo’ bears elegant deep violet-purple flowers with a soft velvet texture, held on upright spikes above aromatic mid-green foliage. Bred by the renowned Yeo family in Devon, this hardy hybrid is valued for its reliable flowering, subtle colour, and strong performance in mixed borders.
Its compact, bushy habit makes it suitable for edging, containers, or weaving into herbaceous planting schemes, while its long flowering season ensures months of pollinator activity.
Specifications:
Height: 50–60 cm
Spread: 40–50 cm
Flowering: June to October
Position: Full sun
Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile
Maintenance: Deadhead to prolong flowering; cut back hard in early spring after frosts
🌿 Note for Isle of Wight planting:
Thrives in the Island’s mild, coastal climate. Ideal for free-draining borders and gravel gardens where reliable colour and low maintenance are key. Protect from prolonged winter wet in heavy soils with a mulch or plant on a slight mound.
🌿 Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:
Achillea millefolium ‘Cassis’ – Rich red tones for contrast and pollinator value
Erigeron karvinskianus – Soft, sprawling daisies to lighten the base
Geranium ‘Rozanne’ – A cool blue foil that mingles beautifully between salvia stems
Pennisetum orientale ‘Flamingo’ – Graceful motion and softness in the breeze
Sedum ‘Iceberg’ – Autumn structure and complementary pale contrast
🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
An ideal salvia for naturalistic or cottage planting schemes. Combine with ornamental grasses and drought-tolerant perennials for a long-lasting, wildlife-friendly display. Best planted in groups of three or more for visual impact.
