Salvia ‘Royal Velour’
A rich, velvety salvia with deep wine-red flowers that bring warmth and drama to sunny summer borders.
Salvia ‘Royal Velour’ produces elegant spikes of deep burgundy-red blooms held above aromatic green foliage. The velvety flowers appear steadily through summer, creating a long season of colour that bees and other pollinators love. Its rich tones add depth to planting schemes and make a striking focal point among lighter or airy perennials.
This hardy perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, forming a bushy clump that returns reliably each year. Once established it is drought tolerant and easy to grow, making it ideal for sunny borders, wildlife gardens, and warm coastal planting where it can flower for months.

Salvias perform particularly well in Isle of Wight gardens where sunny conditions and free-draining soils suit them perfectly. ‘Royal Velours’ is ideal for warm borders and coastal gardens where it can enjoy plenty of sunshine and produce a long season of colour.
🌿 Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:
Salvia hians, bold violet-blue flowers that contrast beautifully with the deep red tones
Cephalaria gigantea, tall airy stems that add height and movement to borders
Achillea ‘Terracotta’, warm sunset shades that complement the rich colouring
Stachys byzantina, silvery foliage that highlights the dark velvety blooms
🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
Deadhead regularly or lightly trim plants in midsummer to encourage fresh flowering stems and keep the display going well into autumn.
