Salvia ‘Ruby Star’
A vibrant, long-flowering salvia with rich ruby-red blooms that bring colour and pollinator activity to sunny borders.
Salvia ‘Ruby Star’ produces spikes of deep ruby-red flowers that stand out beautifully against fresh green aromatic foliage. The blooms appear in succession through summer and into early autumn, creating a long-lasting display that bees and other pollinators absolutely love. Its rich colouring adds warmth to planting schemes and combines easily with many cottage garden favourites.
This hardy perennial thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, forming a bushy clump that returns reliably each year. Once established it is drought tolerant and easy to grow, making it ideal for sunny borders, wildlife gardens, and containers where its vibrant colour can shine throughout the season.

Note for Isle of Wight planting:
Salvias thrive in Isle of Wight gardens where sunny conditions and free-draining soils suit them well. ‘Ruby Star’ performs particularly well in warm borders and coastal gardens where it can enjoy plenty of sunshine.
Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range:
Achillea ‘Terracotta’, warm tones that complement the ruby-red flowers
Erigeron karvinskianus, airy daisies that soften the planting
Erysimum ‘Winter Orchid’, long-flowering wallflowers that extend the colour season
Nepeta ‘Six Hills Giant’, relaxed lavender-blue flowers loved by pollinators
🌟 The Green Standard Tip:
Deadhead spent flower spikes regularly to encourage fresh blooms and keep the plant flowering for as long as possible through the summer.
