Scabiosa caucasica ‘Alba’ (White Scabious)

Elegant white pincushion flowers bring a light, airy feel to sunny borders.

Pure white, delicate pincushion blooms sit on slender stems above neat mounds of grey-green foliage, flowering for months through summer. Each flower is rich in nectar and constantly visited by bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making this a brilliant wildlife plant. The fresh white colour works beautifully with soft blues, silvers and pastel tones, adding brightness without overpowering neighbouring plants.

A hardy, long-lived perennial that thrives in free-draining soil and full sun. It forms tidy clumps and flowers continuously if regularly deadheaded. Perfect for cottage gardens, pollinator borders and relaxed naturalistic planting schemes, and it also makes excellent cut flowers.

Ideal Companion Plants from The Green Standard Range

  • Salvia ‘Royal Velours’ – deep burgundy-purple spires create a striking contrast with the white flowers

  • Nepeta ‘Blue Wonder’ – soft clouds of lavender-blue flowers loved by pollinators

  • Origanum ‘Dingle Fairy’ – edible oregano with ornamental pink bracts and aromatic foliage

  • Jasione ‘Blue Light’ – compact blue globe flowers that echo the pincushion shape

🌟 The Green Standard Tip
Cut stems regularly for the house and keep deadheading. This simple trick keeps plants producing fresh flowers for months and encourages an even longer season of pollinator activity.
