Sedum ‘Matrona’
A bold, architectural perennial with dusky pink flower heads and rich, dark stems that bring structure and late-season colour.
‘Matrona’ stands out for its strong upright habit and smoky tones, with fleshy grey-green leaves flushed with purple and deep burgundy stems. In late summer, large flat heads of soft pink flowers appear, ageing to a deeper rosy tone and lasting well into autumn. It’s a magnet for bees and other pollinators, and the seed heads continue to look good right through winter.
It forms a sturdy clump, typically reaching around 60cm tall, with a similar spread. Best in full sun and well-drained soil, it thrives on neglect and is very drought tolerant once established. Avoid overly rich soil, as this can lead to floppier growth, its strength is in those firm, upright stems.
